Dress Code
There is no official dress code in the Grandstand enclosure at The Betfred Derby Festival. Racegoers are encouraged to come “dressed to feel your best”.
From bright and bold to subtle and sophisticated. This is racing’s most spectacular carnival, after all.
- Fancy dress: please avoid inappropriate or offensive outfits, as anything deemed vulgar or derogatory may be refused entry.
-Sports clothes: team colours are not permitted, please refrain from wearing team kits when attending The Derby Festival.
Queen Elizabeth II Stand
Event Schedule
The Queen Elizabeth II Stand does have a dress code in place on Derby Day. In keeping with the event this area is for those who wish to wear Morning Dress on Derby Day, in the same way there are areas all over the racecourse and on The Hill in the middle of track, where people have been encouraged to wear whatever they feel comfortable in, however informal, since the race was first run in 1780.
- Either black or grey morning dress with a top hat, service dress or full national costume is obligatory on Derby Day.
- You must wear formal day dress or a tailored trouser suit, with a hat or fascinator.
- This dress code applies to both Queen Elizabeth II Stand ticket holders and Queen Elizabeth II Stand Hospitality guests.

If you’ve booked in the Racegoers’ Restaurant you should head for Car Park 4.
If you’re in any of our other hospitality spaces you’ll be able to park in Car Park 1 (on all weekend racedays and on selected Friday racedays) or Car Park 4 (on all racedays).
Gates typically open two hours before the day’s first race.
Newbury Racecourse offers dedicated accessible parking.
All of our car parks have accessible parking spaces but we’d recommend racegoers requiring accessible parking head for Car Park 4 in the first instance.
Parking in Car Park 4 is on level tarmac with drop kerbs to the entry gates. Where parking may not be available in Car Park 4 we will endeavour to find the most suitable parking space, as close to the gates as possible.
